PROPER VOLTAGE CONNECTION FOR 12 AND 24 VOLT APPLICATIONS BY JIM BAUDO


IF YOU STILL DO NOT FULLY UNDERSTAND THE WIRING ARRANGEMENT CALL A COMPETENT SERVICE PERSON.  I HAVE SEEN UNITS WIRED WRONG EVEN FROM BOAT DEALERS SELLING MANY UNITS EVERY YEAR. ONE PERSON I KNOW OF WAS UNHAPPY WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF HIS PONTOON WITH THE 24 VOLT MOTOR ( WIRED WRONG ) SUPPLIED FROM THE DEALER SO HE TRADED IN THE STANDARD 24 VOLT MOTORS AT ANOTHER DEALER FOR THE LARGEST 24 VOLT MOTORS AVAILABLE AND ( WIRED WRONG ) SAW NO INCREASE IN PERFORMANCE. PROBLEM: BOTH MOTORS WERE DELIVERED SET UP AS A 12 VOLT APPLICATION. WHEN I WAS CONSULTED TO ASSIST WITH THE PROBLEM I JUST PLACE THE CORRECT WIRES ON THE RIGHT TERMINALS AND THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED.  JIM BAUDO SUMMER 2000

BELOW IS HOW TO WIRES ARE  PLACE ON THE BATTERY FOR PROPER 24 VOLT CONNECTION. IF YOU PLAN TO USE 4, 12 VOLT BATTERIES, 5 HEAVY DUTY JUMPERS ARE REQUIRED. FIRST JUMPER 2 OF THE BATTERIES TOGETHER WITH 2 JUMPERS POSITIVE TO POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE TO NEGATIVE.  THEN DO THE SAME TO THE NEXT 2 BATTERIES. THE ADDING OF ADDITIONAL BATTERIES IS WHAT GIVES YOU MORE RESERVE RUNNING TIME. NOW WE WILL COMBINE THE 2 PAIRS OF JUMPERED BATTERIES TO MAKE 24 VOLTS. TAKE JUMPER # 5 AND PLACE IT BETWEEN 1 JUMPERED PAIR, POSITIVE ON 1 TO NEGATIVE ON THE OTHER PAIR. USE A VOLTAGE TESTER TO CHECK THE VOLTAGE BEFORE ATTACHING THE BOAT MOTOR WIRING.

RECOMMENDED VOLTAGE AND CONTINUITY TESTER WE SELL.
IT'S SIMPLE AND NOT EXPENSIVE AND IS VERY ACCURATE.

READ THE USER MANUAL THAT COMES WITH IT THOROUGHLY. TO READ VOLTAGE ON FLASHLIGHT'S, AUTO AND BOAT BATTERIES, HOUSE VOLTAGE, ETC. TO 12, 24 AND 48 VOLT DC SYSTEMS, LIKE ON BOATS, AND CARS, PLACE THE SELECTOR AND THE RED AND BLACK TEST WIRES AS PICTURED IN PHOTO FOR THIS MODEL. PLACE THE VOLTAGE SELECTOR AS SHOWN IN PICTURE TO DISPLAY 2 DECIMAL POINT OF PRECISION. A GOOD CHARGED 12 VOLT BATTERY WILL SHOW A MINIMUM OF 12.52 VOLTS. A READING OF UNDER 11 VOLTS INDICATED A DEAD CELL AND THE BATTERY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. OWNERS MANUAL GO HERE 

12 VOLT WIRING FOR THE TILT AND TRIM SWITCH AND THE BOAT LIGHTS AND BOAT ACCESSORIES, THEY WORK ON 12 VOLTS. BY ATTACHING THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE WIRES TO THE BATTERY POST AS MARKED ON THE JUST 1 BATTERY, THEN 12 VOLTS IS MAINTAINED. IN THE CASE OF MULTIPLE BATTERIES FOR 12 VOLT USE FOR DOUBLING THE AVAILABLE AMPERAGE AVAILABLE, USE 2 JUMPER CABLES. 1, POSITIVE TO POSITIVE AND 1, NEGATIVE TO NEGATIVE, TO MAINTAIN 12 VOLTS ONLY.  USE A VOLTAGE TESTER TO CHECK THE VOLTAGE BEFORE ATTACHING THE BOAT AND ACCESSORY WIRING. FOR 24 VOLT WIRING REFER TO THE TEXT OF EP 48 AND EP 96 BELOW. USE A VOLTAGE TESTER TO CHECK THE VOLTAGE BEFORE ATTACHING MOTOR WIRING.
